Stocks: A Few Reminders
Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen our first bear market in 11 years (defined as a 20% drop from a peak). We’ve seen fear and panic set in as a global pandemic ensues. Everyone expects the next few months to be rough, as businesses go remote and/or shut down. Governments throughout the world, along with our Federal Reserve, are going deep into their playbooks to cushion the blow.
What’s it Take to be the Top 1%?
Confession time, I have always been a sucker for statistics. Especially ones that are finance related, as it is a guilty pleasure being a financial planner I suppose. Recently Bloomberg (yes, the same guy who recently ran in the presidential primary) posted an article talking about what it takes to be in the top 1% of earners in America and the world. The findings were extremely interesting to me so figured why not share them with all you wonderful people.

Refi – Refininacing Well been a crazy couple of weeks here in the equity markets to say the least, but hey isn’t that what we signed up for! Despite the current mayhem I like to find good planning opportunities in any situation. Buried in the news of market swings, presidential elections, and Coronavirus lies a […]
Dollar Cost Averaging – What is DCA?
You’ve probably heard of Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA) over the years, but maybe you don’t know exactly what it is. Believe it or not, DCA has been around a long time and I’ve often found it to be a little misunderstood. Therefore, I wanted to take a moment to review DCA–what is it? And, why people do it in the first place?
Your Financial Quiz {The Answers}
After an entire week of sleepless nights, I present to you the eagerly awaited answers. Who knows, maybe the winner will even get one share of Berkshire Hathaway stock. (Yeah, that’s not very likely.)
Your Financial Quiz {Fall Edition}
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s that time a year again. Sharpen your axes and let’s see how you stack up on my bi-annual financial quiz. Here, we separate the men from the boys and the women from the girls. (This is also where I get a little squeamish as we determine if one of you is coming for my job.)
A Natural Financial Athlete
There’s always that one kid. You may recall him growing up, or maybe they are a member of your child’s sports team. You know the one – they have loads of raw talent, but no finesse. They would show up to practice wearing the wrong clothes, and not even know all the rules or strategy. Yet, once they started playing the game, you realized this kid was super talented–they could be a real superstar, but only if someone harnessed all that talent.
Withdrawing from Retirement Accounts:
At least once a week, I find myself educating a client on when they have to take money from retirement plans. Most people are confused on how this works. It’s kinda funny, actually. We spend all this time accumulating money in retirement vehicles, yet many are relatively clueless on the requirements to withdrawal.
Irregular Regular Expenses {A Cautionary Tale}
One of the most common questions asked of me (or my partners) is “how much money do I need to retire?” Sounds like a relatively easy and innocuous question… on the surface.
However, the roots of the question run deep into a person’s financial soul. What they are really asking is “how much money do I need to keep my same standard of living, while no longer earning a paycheck?”
Investing in the Stock Market is NOT Gambling
A few weeks ago, I was visiting my happy place–the Jersey shore. It was an especially good weekend because my best bud, O-man, was in town for his yearly, week-long visit home. Currently, he lives in D.C. and life is busy. So, we don’t get to see each other that often. Needless to say, we try to make up for it when we do get together.
