Wealth, Health & Happiness
Eat Real to Heal
The other day, I had the pleasure of interviewing the very impressive and inspirational Nicolette Richer for our wealth, health, and happiness interview series. Nicolette’s focus is specifically on the health and happiness sector of our mission. It was a fascinating interview that has already made an impact on my life. If you haven’t seen it yet, give a look here and let me know your thoughts.
As usual, here’s my summarization of what I learned (and am still learning) that I think can help us on this wealth, health, and happiness mission.
Nicole’s Message
Nicolette’s message is clear and simple. All it takes is a little prioritization and dedication to start making some real health changes in your life. The end goal? A healthier, happier, and more energized version of yourself. Sounds simple right? Well, it’s a little more involved than just snapping your fingers and eating more veggies, but not by that much.
The concept is simple, our bodies heal themselves. But for them to do so, we have to provide them with the proper nutrients to grow. The analogy Nicolette gave me was, if you had a plant and fed it crushed up Doritos, what would happen? The answer, it would die! The other answer is it sounds like one delicious freaking plant! Why would we then expect our body’s cells to react differently when given Doritos (or any processed foods)? How about our energy levels? If I fed one person tasty cakes and cookies, and another salads and fruits, who would have more energy? The person filled with refined sugars and salts? Or the individual filled with rich nutrients? You guessed it!
Although the concept seems intuitive, does it really work? Well, Nicolette has coached over 7,000 people. The answer is a resounding yes! I think we all know someone who has made a drastic eating change in their lives, as they were struggling with some chronic disease. Then, they turned it around and felt a million times better. I personally can think of about six people I know who have done so and swear by this stuff. The issue is change is hard.
Making a Change
It’s time to make me lucky number 7. You see, I was so moved by Nicolette’s interview and message that I wanted to give it a try. For the past few years, I’ve struggled with some health issues myself (specifically chronic headaches). It has been a wild ride for me dealing with a plethora of different medicines and diets. So, I figured I’ll give this thing a shot to see what all the fuss is about. Therefore, I hired Nicolette personally a few weeks ago.
It started with a three-hour onboarding session, where Nicolette walked my wife and I through the process. She spent a lot of time educating us and answering whatever questions we had. At the core, it’s basically changing to a whole food vegan diet with a bunch of supplements and heavy juicing. There are basically three stages. First stage is month 1, which is the most extreme part with a very limited, organic diet. The concept here is to extract all the bad nutrients from your body and replenish them so your cells can rejuvenate.
Month 2-3 (or longer if your body needs it) is the rebuilding of your cells. This allows you to add back into your diet a lot of other organic fruits, veggies, and grains. This is stage two and I can’t wait for it. I’m ready to add more diversity back into my diet. By the end of this stage, you start to see your body really heal itself to its natural state.
Finally, stage three is the maintenance of the healed version of yourself. It means less supplements, less juicing, and a little more flexibility on the foods you put into your body. However, the idea here is to stay on a mostly vegan, whole grain, organic diet. The goal in this stage is to not revert back into the habits that caused a weakened immune system in the first place.
As of writing this blog, I’m two weeks into this diet. I’m thinking clearer, have lowered my meds, and have had less symptoms. Now, it isn’t all rainbows and sunshine if I’m being honest. I really miss pizza and wings (as in I would give my left arm for some right now). But every day it gets easier as my taste buds evolve. I’ll keep you updated as to my journey, but you can officially put me in the camp of a full-fledged believer.
In Summary
Much like most things in life, it’s mentally harder to do than physically. But if we’re trying to be the best versions of ourselves, with the ultimate outcome being as happy as possible, we have to prioritize our health. I, for one, want to be the best I can be for my family, my company, and myself. If I feel great, I can think great and be great.
