A Book

I Wrote a Book

Ok, so growing up, one of my least favorite subjects was English.  Who the heck needs this stuff anyway?  I disliked research papers and reading so much that I chose a career in the furthest thing from it, finance.  Then something odd happened about a decade ago: I started writing this weekly blog.  It started out as laborious and has turned into a labor of love.  I have a medium to share whatever is on my mind, and even more believable, one or two people not named Sherry Rosen (my amazing, loving mother) read it weekly.

Add to this metamorphosis if I told you I read maybe a few books a year at most through my 20’s and 30’s, that would be a lot, although I did do plenty of finance reading.  Now I read that many books a week, I know I am equally disgusted with myself.  I share this as I’ve learned a lot about myself through my journey and, more importantly, I feel I have a message to share.

From Blogging to Books

Over the past year, I thought there was a way to combine these new passions along with my lifelong passion for helping and guiding people through their financial lives to achieve their life goals.  Eureka!  Why don’t I write a book that incorporates my favorite messages through my decade of blogging and put it into my newfound love of books?  Brilliant, my dear Watson.  This led to the journey of publishing my very first book on personal finance.

I’ve put together a personal finance book that I hope serves as a guide to anyone looking to live a financially healthy life.  It is a step-by-step guide walking you through a year of your finances.  I liked this concept as there is so much to learn and focus on with personal finance. I figured, let’s make a book that takes you through a year-long journey to getting in financial shape.  It includes the best ideas and key areas to focus on and is meant to be read by everyone, regardless of whether you are just starting out or towards the end of your career.

I wanted to approach things differently and distill a very nuanced topic into bite-sized pieces so the layman can understand.  I always enjoyed reading these types of books where you get little nuggets daily or weekly (see the Daily Stoic), as it gives you a concept to think about and the time to breathe so you can implement.  That is the objective and focus of my first book.  I want to take a lifetime of financial coaching and simply give back.

Reading a Book Does Not Replace Financial Advice

Now, I know what you are thinking, and no, this is not a replacement for having a financial advisor.  Rather, it can serve as a catalyst and help drive your dialogue with an advisor of your choosing.  I clearly feel strongly about the value added in personal advice and coaching relationships.  I’ve seen that partnership changes more lives than I care to mention and brings so much happiness, along with peace and joy, to those who have chosen to engage.

This is an exciting next chapter for me, pun absolutely intended, and one that I hope you or someone you think would appreciate it will take alongside me.  I have no visions of grandeur and certainly don’t expect to be on the NYT best seller list, although how cool would that be?  Instead, like my chosen vocation, if I can better just one more life by what I do, I’d consider it my highest calling.  I see this book as a way to touch and help more people, and to me, there is no more noble cause than that.

Your Intentional Financial Life

With that said, I’m happy to announce Your Intentional Financial Life.  If you think you or someone you know would enjoy it, awesome.  In any event, I know the lovely Sherry Rosen will read it, and if nothing else, I know she will think it NYT worthy!

One final note on the topic.  They say it takes a village, and I can’t think of any more accurate phrase to describe this journey than that.  There were a ton of instrumental individuals that this book couldn’t have come to fruition without.  John Anderson, thank you for the mentoring through this process. Your insight is wise beyond my years, just not yours, hehe.  Sarah Thomas, our head of marketing, literally put her blood, sweat, and tears into this thing.  She was my spark, editor, confidant, and truly an amazing friend through it all.  Her dedication to this cause was something I admire and must give her the thanks she deserves.

Hope you enjoy it if you care to get a copy, and if not, thank you for all your support, as if you didn’t encourage me to keep blogging, none of this would have been possible.

As always, stay wealthy, healthy, and happy.
