AI Will Make You More Human
AI’s greatest gift may end up being that it paradoxically makes us more human than ever. I know that sounds counterintuitive coming from someone who is becoming a bigger and bigger believer in this technology every single day. The power of it is quite scary, and it makes me question, literally, everything. I see a future where the world is turned on its head, and I think it is coming sooner than later.
So how does the world’s greatest machine power make us more human? Let me explain through two lenses — personal and professional.
Free Time
On the personal side, I believe AI will free up your time immensely to stop living in this virtual online world. How much time does it take you to plan a vacation today? Here is a fun exercise: type into whatever AI you use where you’d like to go next and give it some direction on what you like to do. Then wait about 20 seconds, and you will have a curated, really decent first draft of your itinerary. With a little extra work, you will have a vacation planned in minutes versus hours or days. The same goes for meal planning, researching a health question, or organizing a family event — tasks that used to eat up your evening now take minutes.
Now the question is, what do you do with that extra time? My answer — be more human. Go for a walk with your significant other. Go play tennis with your crew (what I would be doing). Go out with friends or spend more time with your kids and grandkids. Let technology handle the automation so you can get back to actually living.
Let me pivot to the professional sphere, and we can pick on my vocation in financial services. We are already using AI internally to do things like cut financial plan prep from hours to minutes. Let’s face it — do you care who prepares your financial check-up, a human or a machine? All that prep currently takes hours of someone slogging away at rote tasks. What if a machine can do it in minutes?
Being More Human
Here is my thesis: if we can automate those redundant and time-consuming tasks, it will free up my team to stop working behind the scenes and start working more in front of the scenes. Spending more time with clients. Being even more proactive with guidance and advice. Leaning more into the human element of the experience we all want. This is exactly why we are building our firm this way — not to replace the advisor, but to unleash them. To make us more human.
I don’t believe AI is here to take all of our jobs and make us obsolete. I think it can reshuffle the deck to allow us to be more present, more engaged, more front-facing and interactive. At the end of the day, that means a more human relationship between you and the people who serve you. It also translates to more value coming from the people you care for and trust. I don’t know about you, but that sounds pretty great to me.
Now it won’t be a straight line. Change is hard for all of us. But if we lean in correctly — and for every task AI takes off our plate, we repurpose that time and energy into something more meaningful — then I think the future is bright for us all.
As always, stay wealthy, healthy, and happy.
